Raccoon River Valley Trail and High Trestle Trail Now Connected!

 

We are happy to report that the extension of the High Trestle Trail to connect with the Raccoon River Valley Trail will now be completed on time. Last month it appeared that the opening of the connection between the two trails would be delayed.  However, the contractor has informed Dallas County Conservation that the extension will be done on time, August 16. 
 

After a decade of anticipation, these two iconic and nationally recognized trails will be connected. What better way to celebrate than with a scenic bike ride.  Click below to register.

Raccoon River Valley Trail Closure

The Raccoon River Valley Trail Lighted Bridge that crosses the Raccoon River on the east side of Adel will be closed for bridge rehabilitation, which includes: deck, railings, and infrastructure upgrades along with some bridge approach paving. This work will begin possibly as early as July 22, 2024. It is anticipated that this work will require the bridge to be closed up through approximately mid-October. During this closure, there will be no access across this bridge.

As the longest paved loop trail in the nation, it connects 14 central Iowa communities to offer outdoor recreationists a unique experience with every visit.
